Word Painting with Poetry
Word Paintingwith Poetry

Dr. Janet Hoult, Culver City’s Honorary Artist Laureate for Poetry, teaches a “Word Painting” poetry class at the Senior Center on Wednesday afternoons.  During the one hour session she covers many poetic literary devices such as alliteration, metaphors and similes as well as how to compose haiku, sonnets and free verse. Class poets share poems they write based upon what they have learned.  Janet will conduct a poetry contest based on Culver City and the city's historical sites as part of the Culver City Centennial Celebration in 2017.

Two members of the Culver City Women's Club, Angie Waller and Alice Gardello, have been attending Janet’s classes and were the winners of the 2016 Marina District Poetry prize.
